A career in alternative fuels technology focuses on developing, producing, and supporting fuels that reduce reliance on traditional fossil fuels, such as biodiesel, hydrogen, ethanol, renewable natural gas, and other emerging clean-energy sources. Professionals in this field help create and distribute alternative fuels, build or maintain the systems that deliver them, and design the vehicles and equipment that use them. Students who pursue this pathway learn how raw materials are converted into usable fuels, how fueling infrastructure is developed, and how alternative-fuel vehicles and machinery are manufactured and maintained.
