Pathways for Accelerated Learning
Get ahead in your degree
Taking college-level coursework could help set you up for success in your higher education plans. Dual credit programs offer courses that allow students to earn credits toward both high school and college degrees.
What is Dual Credit?
Dual credit programs allow high school students to enroll in college classes and earn credit toward high school graduation and a college degree. There are several dual credit programs in Hawaii that academically qualified high school students can participate in. Some of the most common dual credit programs are Early College and Running Start, while theĀ Advanced Placement program provides students the possibility to obtain college credits by taking AP exams. To learn more about all the dual credit programs in Hawaii, visit the Dual Credit website:
Early College
Early College courses are “sheltered” classes, which means that these courses are only open to high school students, but taught by University of Hawaii professors or qualified high school teachers.

Running Start
Running Start enables high school students to complete college coursework at University of Hawaii campuses.

Advanced Placement
Advanced Placement (AP) courses may offer high school students a way to receive college credit if they can attain qualifying scores on the AP exams (each university has different qualifying scores).
